Plan A "Wimberley is for the Boys" Weekend

Roll into town after work and decompress with a frosty beverage at The Let Go, located smack-dab in the center of town. The outdoor bar is a great place to unwind and catch the laid-back Wimberley Vibe. Try their “Happy Meal” -- a Lone Star Beer, a shot of whiskey, and a kid's cheeseburger to get the evening started.

Afterward, follow your ears to Willow Lake Watering Hole and Mercantile just down Old Kyle Road, where live music is almost always playing, and football games are streaming on the TVs. If you get the munchies, you can order from nearby restaurants and have your grub delivered to your table indoors or outside under the oak trees.

Once the evening is finished, head back to your choice of lodging, whether it’s a boutique hotel within walking distance or a rustic cabin out in the hills. If you’ve celebrated a bit too much, make sure you take advantage of Shuttle on the Square, an on-demand golf cart and van shuttle to anywhere in the Wimberley Valley.

In the morning, it’s time to grab a quick coffee and prepare for the day ahead. If there are cigar or pipe aficionados in your group, stop by Wimberley Cigar Lounge. In addition to a great selection of stogies, the store has a nice clubby feel with TVs, music, and attentive service from Tim Busby, the owner. He’ll even take orders and hand-deliver a box of cigars to any Wimberley address.

Another must-visit spot for the discerning gentleman is Felix T. Jack, an independently owned men’s haberdashery. Located in an architecturally stunning building among the oaks, say hello to proprietors Heath Tolleson and Kristin McDermott and let them help you find a unique yet unpretentious shirt, small-batch denim, stylish shoes, or an accessory. They pride themselves on providing American-inspired quality garments, responsibly made.

If you’re so inclined, the Wimberley Valley is home to a number of wineries, breweries, and distilleries, such as Lone Man Mountain Brewery. Consider planning a tour to visit them. One of the newest spots in the area is Senza Maeso, located on the scenic Devil’s Backbone. The tasting room offers a one-of-a-kind gooseberry-infused “hybrid spirit” that must be tasted to be appreciated.

If your group trends more towards the great outdoors, Wimberley has you covered. Whether it’s swimming, hiking, kayaking, or ziplining, the Valley can scratch your outdoor itch. If you’ve always wanted to try your hand at fishing -- or if you’re a seasoned pro -- be sure to stop by the Grateful Angler. In addition to outfitting you with top-of-the-line gear, proprietor Paul Torrez can schedule lake trips or Hill Country river float and wade trips that’ll put you on some of the area’s most unique species of fish.

The Wimberley Valley is also home to Spoke Hollow Outdoors, a hunting and fly fishing guide service owned by Josh Crumpton and headquartered on his family’s ranch just a few miles south of town. During the season, you can book a half-day dove hunting or upland game trip right on his property. But Josh’s philosophy is more than consumptive—in addition to hunting and fishing, he’s a strong advocate of teaching outdoor traditions like habitat conservation and field skills like fire making, foraging, plant and wildlife identification, and navigation the old-fashioned way.
