Each spring, Mother Nature rolls out a carpet of wildflowers over the Texas Hill Country. She seems to favor Wimberley, a picturesque and friendly town of 3000. Here, we greet visitors with friendly smiles and our welcome sign announces that Wimberley is “A Little Bit of Heaven.” Beyond the natural beauty and welcoming vibe, you’ll find Wimberley ushers in spring with a full calendar of events. Activities cater to nature lovers, serious shoppers, foodies, and art and music enthusiasts. No matter your interests, Wimberley has something in store for you in March and April.

Set Butterflies Free

The EmilyAnn Theatre & Gardens hosts the annual Butterfly Festival on the third Saturday of April each year. During the poignant opening ceremony and remembrance celebration, butterflies are released to honor those who have passed away. The day-long event turns festive soon after, with kid-friendly activities, games, an educational butterfly house, and live butterfly releases every 30 minutes. Vendors sell festival t-shirts and any caterpillar- and butterfly-themed doodad you can imagine. Concessions and live entertainment are on tap, too. Entry and parking are free, but donations are accepted.

Cycle for a Purpose

Early spring’s weather is not too hot, not too cold, but in the perfect Goldilocks zone to play outside. Climbing Mount Baldy for breathtaking views, taking a leisurely horseback ride, or ziplining above the treetops are great ways to enjoy the outdoors. But how about pedaling for a purpose? The Ride to Defeat ALS combines fun and a worthy cause. The annual bicycling event offers multiple routes and ride lengths from 10 to 60 miles to accommodate all levels of riders. It’s a great way to see Wimberley Valley and raise funds to find a cure. The annual March event ends with lunch, drinks, and a post-ride celebration at Willow Lake Watering Hole.

Eat Dessert First

The annual Pie Social celebrates local bakers, and we benefit from the fruits of their labor! We’re not sure what secret family recipes are involved, but it’s clear that their rolling pins, fresh fruit, perfect pecans, and creamy custards create the tastiest of pies. Supported by the Wimberley Valley Museum each April, local bakers enter their best fruit, nut, cream, or specialty pies for judging. During the social, you can sample their pies, join a pie-eating contest, bid on a winning pie in the auction, and enjoy live entertainment.

Speaking of food, farm-to-table restaurants with seasonal menus, mouth-watering BBQ, and eateries with outdoor dining offer a perfect way to enjoy springtime. Wimberley Valley also boasts craft breweries and award-winning wineries with scenic vineyards. And in Wimberley, there’s a very good chance that your meal or drink will be served with a side of live music!

In 2026, the Pie Social happens to take place on the same day as the annual Butterfly Fest. The two events have joined forces to support each other’s mission, so if you can, try to make both! Just imagine a day filled with pie and butterflies. It doesn’t get any better than that.

Marathon Shop at Market Days

From March through December, 490 vendors gather at Wimberley Market Days on the first Saturday of the month. Artisans sell handcrafted jewelry and small-batch luxury bath goods, while gardeners bring potted plants and colorful outdoor pottery. You’ll find clothing, vintage collectibles, and treats for your fur baby. Spread over 20 oak-shaded acres, you’ll find everything from antiques to yard art. Food concessions and three stages with live music encourage you to take a break. After all, Market Day is a marathon, not a sprint! As you search for treasures and trinkets, know you are supporting a good cause: net proceeds from booth rentals, parking, and concession stands go directly to local programs, non-profits, and activities sponsored by the Wimberley Lions Club.

Enjoy Wimberley’s Vibrant Art and Music Scene

It doesn’t take long to discover that Wimberley is a cultural hot spot. In fact, it has been named a Texas Cultural District since 2015. All over town, you can admire elaborate murals and the giant, hand-painted cowboy boots of “Bootiful Wimberley.” Take time to explore the galleries around the historic Wimberley Square. During the quarterly Art Crawl, galleries stay open late. Even if you’re driving from Houston or DFW on Friday afternoon, you can still make it in time to enjoy light bites, meet guest artists, and listen to live music when you arrive.

Yep, music is a common thread in all these events. It’s also woven into everyday life in Wimberley. No matter when you visit this spring, check out the live music calendar. Every night of the week promises to be one filled with songs — perhaps at a restaurant, bar, a nearby dance hall, or at Blue Hole Regional Park. More than a dozen local and area venues regularly host entertainers. Both up-and-coming artists and seasoned musicians who play country, folk, blues, and rock take the stage.

But music isn’t the only reason to hang out at our Blue Hole Regional Park. That’s also where you’ll find the bi-annual Star Party, where stargazers unite with the Texas State Astronomy Club to admire our marvelous universe through their telescopes. Blue Hole also happens to be the home of Birds & Brew, which lacks stargazers but makes up for it in birdwatchers discussing their passion over coffee. Not one for stargazing or birdwatching? Check out the Camp No Kids, Super Dimension Game Night, Owl Prowl, or Movie in the Park events, instead! At Blue Hole Regional Park alone, Wimberley has an event for everyone.

Plan Your Getaway

As you plan your visit, you’ll realize one day isn’t enough. You’ll need at least a weekend to do Wimberley justice. That said, you’ll find dozens of eateries and watering holes to try, as well as lodging that runs the gamut from boutique hotels and quaint B&Bs to creek side cabins and yurts. There’s even a caboose on Wimberley Square!
