Nature Walk with Travis Audubon
October 18, 2026 7:45 AM –10:15 AM
Join Travis Audubon's Shelia Hargis and Hays County Parks staff for a nature walk at Gay Ruby Dahlstrom Nature Preserve in Buda. Situated near the transition between the Edwards Plateau and Blackland Prairie ecoregions, the preserve supports especially rich biodiversity.
Our primary focus will be birds. We expect to encounter year-round residents, along with late fall migrants and newly arriving winter species. We will also observe plants, look for karst features, and discuss the preserve’s geology and natural history. Participants are encouraged to record their observations using eBird and iNaturalist. Because the preserve remains relatively underexplored, our observations can contribute to a better understanding of its ecological value.
